STANDARDS & FORMULAS

CCTV

CCTV cameras: their class, their coverage stopped at the walls, numbering and the schematic.

Standards and regulations

  • IEC 62676-4
    Video surveillance systems - application guidelines

    The DORI classes by pixel density.

Formulas

DORI pixel density

Detection 25 · Observation 62.5 · Recognition 125 · Identification 250 px/m

Range of a class

d = px / (ppm × 2 × tan(HFOV / 2))

  • px = the sensor’s width in pixels
  • ppm = the class’s pixels per metre
  • HFOV = the lens’s horizontal field of view

Design rules it applies

  • Coverage drawn as a sector, every ray stopped at the first wall (links too)
  • Numbering CAM-01 on, floor by floor

For reference. MO.tool works these out to help your design; the engineer remains responsible for it. Always check the edition of each standard your project uses and the requirements of the local authority (DEWA, ADDC, Civil Defence…).
